in a 4 X 8 foot box made out of planks. The shaft and handles were made by Joe Borlaug, a local blacksmith. L.C. and Violet turned the shaft to mix the feed. The mineral feed, known as Bolson's Hi-Test Mineral Protein Conditioner, was scooped out of the mixer with a scoop one of the hired man found in the city dump. The feed was put in 50 lbs, cloth sacks made by a local lady.

L.C. continued to exhibit his chickens at poultry shows and fairs and won many prizes. Later L.C. bought the farm where he grew up and raised Polled Shorthorn cattle. He exhibited the cattle at fairs in Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois and won many prizes. The farm was called Bolson’s Hill-Top Ranch. He also raised chickens and hogs on the farm.

As noted earlier, L.C. initially mixed his feed at home. He later built a large feed plant near the Milwaukee Depot in Decorah. At various times he also owned feed businesses in Mabel, MN, Reinbeck, IA and Charles City, IA. Bolson chicks hatched in Decorah were sold at two of the locations. He also made poultry and hog feeders and supplies.

L.C. and Violet had strong ties to the Decorah area. Over the years Bolson Feeds provided jobs for many people in the area. L.C. served on the Winneshiek Co. Fair Board, the Board of Directors of the Security Bank & Trust Co. and the Board of Directors of Decorah Jobs, Inc. He also was secretary for the Lutheran Welfare Society.

One of L.C. and Violet's greatest assets was their Christian faith. They were faithful members of Decorah Lutheran Church. Violet taught Sunday School, was a member of the Board of Deacons and president of the Social Action Club. She was a member of the Ladies Aid until advanced age prevented her from being active. L.C. served on a Board of Trustees and a number of committees. He was chairman of the finance committee for building a new church (1956-60). He also was on the finance committee when they built the new parish house which was dedicated in 1951.

Lawrence “L.C." Bolson died 4 Nov 1989 and is buried in Locust Cemetery. As of this writing in Feb of 1996, Violet is living with her daughter, Vernetta Cline.
